Michael Jackson tops NME best singers poll

The NME poll saw more than 10 million votes cast online, with users voting a score out of 10 for each act.

According to the music site, Queen's Freddie Mercury was leading the pack before Jackson eventually edged him into second place.

Jackson's average score was 9.02 out of 10, with Mercury securing 8.39.

Elvis Presley was voted into third place with 7.17, and Guns N' Roses vocalist Axl Rose into fourth 6.47.

Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner were the only women in the Top 20, at numbers 10 and 20 respectively.
