G’day mates,
Around this time of the year, in 1973, the brothers visited Australia and New Zealand after their tour in Japan. In total, they performed 7 times:
June 23th - Brisbane, Australia, Brisbane Festival Hall
June 26th - Melbourne, Australia, Festival Hall
June 29th - Perth, Australia, Beatie Park
July 1st - Adelaide, Australia, Apollo Stadium
July 2nd - Sydney, Australia, Hordern Pavilion
July 4th - Christchurch, New Zealand, Town Hall
July 5th - Wellington, New Zealand, Athletic Park

Lots of candid pictures of their trip to Australia can already be found here. A few concert pictures have also been posted to our main gallery and a great J5 fan, J5collector also posted some GREAT concert pictures of one of their Australian concerts.
One of my favorite pictures from Australia is this one of the J5 meeting Aboriginal natives.
I only have a few more pictures that don’t feature Michael to add. A first one is this picture of Marlon, Tito and Randy with their australian promotor on the left and Dimple Tucker of Right On! magazine on the right. They're on a yacht cruise that revealed the popular sights around Sydney. The quality isn’t great but I like this picture. Notice the camera that Randy has around his neck, these boys seemed to carry their camera around everywhere, I wonder if they still have all the pictures they took themselves when they were going on tour all around the world.
This second picture is one of little Randy with a stuffed animal (I think it’s a koala bear since they’re in Australia). This picture was taken in the press room at Mascot, Sydney airport. Randy’s 11 years old on this picture and he’d been travelling with the group for a while now.
There’s even a video of this interview with Randy at this press event. I think he’s being very polite and his chubby cheeks are too adorable! I wonder what happened to the other brothers’ interviews. I hope other footage that was filmed that day will surface one day, the video is great quality.
Last but not least, I’d like to share these lovely stories:
This story is about a woman who said she met Michael in Brisbane in 1973 when she was shopping with her mom. She went to ask for an autograph and Michael asked her out. They went on a date and ended their date with a kiss. She says it was probably her first kiss and she kept in touch with Michael for a while.
This second story is a story of a radio presenter Gary Shannon. He met the J5 in Perth and says Michael beat him in a game of pool.
There’s also this story of Wendell Hynes who was the group's tour manager and promoter when the Jacksons came to New Zealand. He remembers that the group was fascinated by the Maori stagehands and would watch them playing guitars during sound checks and before shows.
And this last story is from a guy named Ty Dallas who helped organize and finance the Jackson 5's two-gig tour of New Zealand. He says both shows were sold out and that all the J5 wanted to eat is KFC!
